One Vessel Timeline continuous through time
Follow the same vessel seamlessly from history, through live activity and into the future.
History, now and future remain connected on one continuous Vessel Timeline. As live activity unfolds, it becomes part of the vessel’s history, while forward-looking intelligence extends positions, events, calls and current voyage context into the future.
One integrated structure across history, live activity and predicted future.
Seven connected capabilities
Start with the data object you need. Each capability can stand alone or connect directly to the others.
Positions & Tracks
Washed and Structured.
Follow vessel movements as a continuous sequence of positions from historical tracks through the live position to predicted positions ahead with geographic and environmental exposure resolved along the entire timeline.
Events & Vessel Timeline
What happens along the way — and when.
Turn arrivals, departures, passages, area interactions, voyage changes and other vessel activity into structured events across history, now and what lies ahead — and build the timeline around the events that matter to you.
Forward Traffic Intelligence
Know what is heading towards you - before it gets there.
See which vessels are expected to arrive, enter or pass ports, areas, chokepoints and strategic locations — with timing, risk, sanctions and other context to support operations, security and commercial action.
Area Calls
Presence inside a defined maritime area.
Live and historical calls with entry, exit, duration and ongoing/completed status across operational, regulatory and risk areas.
Current Voyage
Vessel awareness from departure to expected arrival.
The voyage sailed, the vessel situation now, and what lies ahead - connected with weather, engine, emissions, risk and other context.
Predictions
See what is expected to happen next.
Extend the vessel picture forward with predicted current position, destination, route, future positions, ETA, passages, area calls, events and environmental conditions along the expected voyage.
Monitoring & Alerts
Turn intelligence into an operational watch.
Monitor vessels, voyages and areas and trigger action from observed, ongoing or predicted information.
Positions & Tracks
A continuous position layer for vessel movement from observed tracks to the expected route ahead.
Marine Benchmark creates a continuous view of vessel movement through time, connecting historical observations, live positions and predicted movement into one consistent position layer.
Observed positions show the track already sailed. Live positions extend the journey as it happens, while predicted positions carry it forward along the expected route.
Where AIS coverage is sparse, intermittent or delayed, predicted current positions help maintain continuity between reliable observations — providing a more complete picture of vessel movement across individual vessels, fleets, markets and maritime geographies.
Because every position is connected to both time and location, Marine Benchmark can resolve geographic, operational and environmental exposure throughout the journey — historically, around the vessel today and along the route ahead.
This position layer also powers Area Calls, vessel events, voyages, monitoring and other Marine Benchmark intelligence, and can be accessed directly through applications, APIs and data feeds.
Historical Tracks
Follow where a vessel has been through washed, structured and time-resolved position history.
Live Vessel Position
Maintain a clear view of where the vessel is now as new observations extend the track.
Continuous Position Coverage
Bridge sparse, intermittent or delayed AIS with predicted positions ahead, maintaining a continuous view from the last reliable observation into the vessel’s expected movement.
Geographic & Environmental Exposure
Resolve areas, weather, sea state and other location-based conditions across the vessel’s movement through time.
Events & Vessel Timeline
A structured chronology of the events that define a vessel’s movement and activity over time.
Marine Benchmark captures meaningful vessel events — from arrivals and departures at ports, terminals, berths and anchorages to STS activity, passage events, area interactions, voyage changes and other operational developments.
Passage Lines add a precise event layer for tracking when vessels cross defined geographic lines or chokepoints. Customers can also create custom Passage Lines around the locations, approaches and corridors that matter to their operations and generate vessel events whenever those lines are crossed.
The same event framework spans past, present and future. Historical events show what has happened, live events capture what is happening now, and predicted events show what is expected to happen next — using the same event categories across the vessel journey.
Each event is connected to time, location and the surrounding vessel context, allowing it to be enriched with weather and environmental exposure, geographic context, vessel condition, risk and other relevant intelligence at the point of activity.
The Vessel Timeline brings these events together into a continuous chronology around the vessel. Customers can design the timeline around the categories most relevant to them — combining port activity, terminal and berth movements, anchorage, STS activity, Passage Line events, Area Calls and voyage events across historical, live and predicted time horizons in a single view.
Vessel Events
Arrivals, departures and other significant events across ports, terminals, berths, anchorages, STS activity, areas and voyages.
Passage Lines
Track vessel passages across defined chokepoints and corridors, or create custom Passage Lines around locations relevant to your operation.
Design Your Own Vessel Timeline
Build a vessel chronology around the event categories that matter to you, across historical, live and predicted time horizons.
Event Context & Exposure
Enrich events with weather, environmental conditions, geographic exposure, vessel condition, risk and other relevant intelligence at the time and location of activity.
Forward Traffic Intelligence
Know what is heading towards you — before it gets there.
Marine Benchmark provides a forward-looking view of vessel traffic towards ports, terminals, passages, chokepoints, operational areas, critical infrastructure and other defined locations.
Instead of starting with a vessel and asking where it will go, Forward Traffic starts with the location and shows which vessels are expected to arrive, enter or pass — and when.
This gives ports, terminal operators, maritime service and supply providers, bunker suppliers, canal and waterway authorities, public agencies, defence organisations and operators responsible for maritime security or critical infrastructure earlier visibility into traffic that may affect their operations, assets or areas of responsibility.
For maritime service, supply and bunker providers, this visibility also creates a commercial advantage: identifying relevant vessels earlier, prioritising sales opportunities and engaging potential customers before they reach port or enter the service area.
Expected arrivals and passages can be combined with vessel characteristics, voyage context, cargo information, risk ratings, sanctions intelligence and other relevant attributes — helping organisations identify which vessels matter, prioritise attention and prepare before arrival.
Forward Traffic can be applied to established maritime locations as well as customer-defined areas, corridors and Passage Lines, creating a forward-looking operational picture around the places, assets and infrastructure that matter most.
Expected Arrivals
See which vessels are expected to arrive at a port, terminal, anchorage or defined maritime area and when.
Predicted Passages
Identify vessels expected to pass a chokepoint, waterway, corridor or Passage Line before they reach it.
Sales Opportunity View
Identify relevant approaching vessels early, prioritise commercial opportunities and engage prospects before they arrive in port or enter your service hub area.
Custom Watchpoints
Define your own areas, corridors and Passage Lines around ports, infrastructure or strategic locations to see what is approaching.
Risk & Priority
Combine forward traffic with vessel attributes, cargo, risk ratings, sanctions intelligence and other context to identify approaching vessels that require attention.
Area Calls
Turn vessel presence inside maritime areas into structured, measurable intelligence.
Marine Benchmark transforms vessel interaction with defined maritime geographies into Area Calls showing when a vessel enters, how long it remains, whether the call is still ongoing and when it exits.
Unlike point-in-time events, an Area Call represents presence over time. Entry opens the call, live vessel activity continuously updates it, and exit completes the call with a final duration.
The same structure can be applied across historical activity, vessels currently inside an area and expected future interactions based on predicted routes — providing a consistent view of where vessels have been exposed, where they are now and which areas they are expected to encounter next.
Area Calls can be created across regulatory, country, risk, operational and geographic layers including EEZs, sea areas and basins, ECAs, war and risk zones, anchorages, offshore areas and customer-defined geographies.
War zone & Risk Area Calls
Measure vessel entry, presence, exit and time spent within defined JWC war zone, conflict and other risk areas including calls that are still ongoing.
Country & EEZ Calls
Track when vessels enter, remain within and leave national Exclusive Economic Zones and other country-linked maritime geographies.
Regulatory Area Calls
Track vessel presence across ECAs, environmental zones and other regulatory maritime geographies.
Sea Areas & Basins
Measure when vessels enter, remain within and leave defined seas, basins and broader maritime regions.
Operational Area Calls
Measure vessel activity within anchorages, yards, offshore areas and other defined operational maritime locations.
Custom Area Calls
Define your own maritime geographies and apply the same call structure to areas relevant to operations, risk, compliance or research.
Current Voyage
A live, voyage-aware view of the vessel from departure to expected arrival.
Current Voyage brings the vessel’s ongoing journey into one connected view — what has happened since departure, the situation now and what is expected along the route ahead.
Marine Benchmark connects vessel movement with voyage progress, weather and environmental exposure, machinery and energy demand, fuel consumption, emissions, regulatory context and risk intelligence around the same voyage.
The view extends seamlessly forward through the predicted route, future vessel positions, expected arrival, upcoming passages and Area Calls, predicted events and forecast conditions — providing a continuously updated picture from origin to destination.
Voyage progress
Follow departure, track sailed, distance, progress and the sequence of Port Calls, passages, Area Calls and other relevant events across the voyage.
Current Area Call
See which maritime areas the vessel is currently inside, when it entered, how long it has remained and the operational, regulatory or risk context connected to that presence.
Bridge awareness
See the vessel’s current position, activity, destination and ETA together with wind, waves, sea state, severe weather, hurricane proximity and relevant geographic exposure.
Engine & Energy
Understand estimated engine load, % MCR, energy demand, fuel consumption and emissions based on vessel characteristics and operating activity.
Voyage Performance & Impact
Track accumulated energy use and emissions, voyage CII and its effect on year-to-date CII, together with cargo, draft, intake, regulatory and risk context where available.
Predictions
Forward-looking intelligence is built into Positions & Events — and available as a standalone capability.
Marine Benchmark turns vessel intelligence from a view of what has happened into a view of what is likely to happen next.
Across Positions & Tracks, Vessel Timeline, Area Calls, Current Voyage and Monitoring & Alerts, predictive intelligence adds a forward-looking layer with expected route, future positions, ETA, predicted passages, area interactions, activity changes and environmental conditions along the voyage.
The same intelligence can also be viewed from the destination, passage or area perspective: which vessels are expected to arrive, pass through or enter a location — and when. This creates valuable advance visibility for ports, maritime service and supply providers, canal and public authorities, cargo interests and other organisations that need to anticipate future vessel traffic around ports, strategic waterways, chokepoints and defined areas.
Combined with vessel risk ratings, sanctions intelligence and other compliance indicators, predicted movements become even more actionable — helping organisations identify relevant vessels earlier, prioritise attention, assess exposure and prepare for what is approaching.
Prediction can also be consumed as a dedicated product when the requirement is purely forward-looking.
